Mit einem Schnitzmesser, dessen Schneide in ihre Richtung zeigt, bearbeitet Melancholia einen speerähnlichen Stock. Es ist eine allegorische Handlung, die zur Performance wird. Als erstes entsteht die Spitze, danach wird die Rinde vom Schaft geschält und der so entstandene Speer in den Boden gestoßen. Er hinterlässt Spuren in dem Schnitzhaufen, aus denen sich Kreisel bilden. Melancholia entfernt sich. |
Tableau after Lucas Cranach the Elder
Melancholia works on a spearlike stick with a woodcarving knife whose blade is pointed towards her. This is an allegorical action turned into a performance. First of all the point emerges, then the bark is shaved from the stem and the resulting spear is driven into the ground. It leaves traces in the pile of shavings from which gyroscopes are formed. Melancholia removes herself. |
