Vulkan umstülpen ist eine aufblasbare, mobile Skulptur, ein Nomadenzelt, das vorübergehend einen Ort für sich beansprucht. Durch Höhenlinien, deren Farbabfolge dem EU-Code von Rem Koolhaas entspricht, werden Begriffe wie „Heimat“, „Territorium“ und „Grenzen“ neu interpretiert.
Als Atemwege der Welt und Ventile im Drucksystem der Erde sind Vulkane immer global, nie national. Sie regulieren das Klima im konkreten, wie auch im übertragenen gesellschaftlich-politischen Sinn. Während Territorien vermessen werden und Nationen sich durch ihre Grenzen konstituierten, operieren Vulkane unter der Oberfläche. Ein Vulkanausbruch respektiert keine Grenzen. |
Volcano Inside Out is an inflatable, mobile sculpture – a nomad tent that temporarily claims a place for itself. Contour lines, their color sequence corresponding to the EU barcode designed by Rem Koolhaas,reinterpret terms such as “homeland,” “territory,” and “borders.”
Functioning both as the world’s respiratory system and as valves in the earth’s pressure system, volcanoes are always global, never national. They regulate the climate in a literal as well as figurative sociopolitical sense. While territories are surveyed and nations constituted by their borders, volcanoes operate below the surface. A volcanic eruption respects no borders. |
